#locationUNC promo day 5: Catie. Catie is the founder and president of Resound Magazine, and she was the one who hired me to do their big debut shoot that featured several student musicians.
Everyone knows her as a musician, but not many knew about her jogging routine: Carrboro to the Old Well and back. She said that so much changed during her time at UNC, but she could always count on this trek to keep her balanced.

#locationUNC promo day 4: Phillip (XVII). If you have kept up with the blog, you have seem Phillip a lot. He has definitely been one of my muses over the past couple of years, and I am sad to see him go.
For his photo, we went to the Global Education Center, where Phillip had one of his first classes at UNC. He remembered meeting a friend he has kept to this day there because she was late, and he had an open seat next to him.
Beyond that, he remembered being incredibly nervous that day about what college would mean. Would he succeed? Was he ready?
But this photo captures how far he has come and how hard he has worked to make his time at UNC memorable.
It is moments and situations like this I hope to capture with #locationUNC.

#locationUNC promo day 3: Jagir, Mackenzie. These two are incredible. Their resumes go on and on and include creating, leading and participating in several different events and organizations: Campus Y, Holi Moi, TedxUNC, Resident Housing Association and so many more.
Most recently, they ended their stint as co-directors of Campus Y, the largest student organization on campus, so we took their photo in their office. It was covered in everything that had done over the past year, and I though it really showed how much these two have affected UNC.

#locationUNC promo day 2: Meghan. I was a photojournalism major at UNC, and it took all that I had to finish the major. Meghan studies journalism and business, and she plays for the UNC field hockey team. To say the least, I felt inadequate in her presence.
Despite her impressive resume (which includes an internship at Bloomberg), she was friendly and fun. While chasing the setting sun around the field hockey stadium, she told me all about UNC athletics and her incredibly experience at UNC, and I am so glad this awesome individual agreed to be a part of #locationUNC.

#locationUNC promo day 1: Korde (V). To promote #locationUNC, I recruited some of the most interesting seniors I could find.
And there is nobody like Korde. I mean, nobody. He was so thrilled about doing Zumba in his cap and gown, but this was not just for a show.
Music, dance and fitness are all big parts of Korde’s life, and they come together in Zumba. He loved every minute of this shoot.
These are the types of locations and moments I want to capture in my #locationUNC campaign. If you want to be a part of it, be sure to check out all of the details:

03.16.13: Trey (XXIV). I just returned from a great weekend at the beach, and creating this photo was the best part.
My friends and I were playing with this kite earlier in the day, and all I could see was this photo but had nobody willing to do it. Then Trey came along …
I laugh every time I see this.

01.26.13: Eric, Diana. I am more than pleased with how this save-the-date shoot for Eric and Diana turned out.
This fun couple wanted a memorable image to make sure all of their loved ones keep their calendars clear for their wedding, and I think this will do the trick.
Eric and Diana requested two things: to spell their wedding date with sparklers and to have a great view of downtown Raleigh in the background. I had never seen Dorthea Dix at night, but many local photographers assured me this was the place to be for the shoot, and they were right. How gorgeous is that view?
Writing with sparklers is not easy, but Eric and Diana were not about to let that and subfreezing temperatures stop them. To make the numbers, they had to write backwards and try their best to stay on the same track each time they wrote the number. I think they did an excellent job.
Then, there is the background photo. They had to hold that kiss for 25 seconds while holding sparklers close enough to their faces for lighting. It was not an easy session, but we had a lot of laughs in the process. I believe any shoot is possible with the right subjects, and Eric and Diana could not been better sports.
I just had to throw the numbers onto one image and add some text, and then bam, we had their save-the-date photo. Below, you will find a visual representation of how the shoot was executed:
Finally, this shoot would have not been possible without the help of the amazing Allie of Allie Mullin Photography. Hire her. Now.

The Holi Moli photos are now on the blog! Click on over there and let me know what you think.
01.08.13: Payal. The organizers of Holi Moli, a Hindu celebration of spring at UNC, hired me to do promotional photos for the event.
I was so excited about this opportunity. This event started three months after I graduated, so I was never able to participate as a student.
Just by looking at my younger friends’ Facebok photos, I could tell how fun this celebration was. People gather in the quad with this powder and water and begin to throw it at each other.
The idea is to cover everyone until they are indistinguishable and, thus, a part of a single community.
To me, it always looked like one big battle, so war became my inspiration for this shoot. I had two concepts:
1) Walking out of the battlefield, changed in some way. This event is more than just fun. It is a huge cultural celebration, and all of the money goes toward a service scholarship. I wanted to show how participating in Holi Moli is an experience.
2) Warpaint. Continuing with the idea of this event changing someone, I wanted to bring it to more a physical level. People will get covered in head to toe in this beautiful powder if they participate, and it should be a badge of honor.
The above photo is from the first concept, and I love it. Payal’s expression is absolutely amazing, and I know it will stop people in their tracks.
